Charlie Biddle
Charles Reed Biddle (July 28, 1926 – February 4, 2003) was an American-Canadian jazz bassist, who lived most of his life in Montreal. Raised in Philadelphia, he moved to Montreal in 1948. As a musician, he performed in the busy Montreal scene with Sadik Hakim, Norman Symonds, Norman Marshall Villeneuve in the 1960s and 70s; later with Oliver Jones, Wray Downes, Jon Ballantyne and many others. He also performed regularly in his own club, Biddles', in downtown Montreal. As a promoter, he arranged Montreal bookings for Johnny Hodges, John Coltrane, Pepper Adams, Bill Evans, Art Farmer, Tommy Flanagan, Thad Jones and many other international jazz stars. He was named an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2003.
