Don Redman (July 29, 1900 – November 30, 1964) was an American jazz musician, arranger, bandleader, and composer. Uncle of saxophonist Dewey Redman, and great-uncle of saxophonist Joshua Redman and trumpeter Carlos Redman, After eight formative years with the bands of Claude Thornhill and Jean Goldkette, Don Redman formed his own band in 1931 and recorded some of the most sophisticated music throughout the 1930s on the Brunswick and Bluebird record labels.  In the 1940s, he arranged for Jimmy Dorsey, Count Basie and Harry James among others.  In the 1950s, he was musical director for singing star Pearl Bailey.
