Charlie Christian

Charlie Christian

Charlie Christian (July 29, 1916 – March 2, 1942) was an American swing and jazz guitarist.  Among the first electric guitarists, he developed a unique style which gained international exposure through his touring and recording with the Benny Goodman Sextet during 1939-41.  Just as he began to break new musical ground in 1942, adapting bebop to the guitar, he fell victim to tuberculosis.  Despite his short life, Charlie Christian is widely regarded as one of the most influential pioneers of jazz guitar.
