Michael Gibbs
Known throughout the jazz world as a composer and arranger, Michael Gibbs was born in Rhodesia. He moved to Boston at 22 in 1959 to study at Berklee and the Boston Conservatory. With world-wide recognition from his work with Gary Burton, he eventually settled in England, providing material for some of the great British jazzers of the late 1960s: John Dankworth, Graham Collier, Mike Westbrook and Kenny Wheeler. After stints as a TV music director and Berklee instructor (back to Boston!), he ventured out as a freelance producer/arranger to many of the best-and-brightest: Pat Metheny, Jaco, Joni, Mike Mantler, Whitney Houston, Peter Gabriel, etc. His brilliant, visionary work continues in the 21st century...
