A doctor's son from Los Angeles, Dexter Gordon really found himself during a 14-year hiatus in Scandinavia. His commanding presence (height: 6'6") graced festival stages throughout Europe and North America and movie screens around the world (in "Round Midnight"). His sound was unmistakeable: heavy and rich on ballads, powerfully inventive on be-bop standards - always a force to be reckoned with. A two-time DownBeat Musician of the Year, Jazz Hall-of-Famer, NEA Jazz Master and Academy Award Nominee, Dexter did it all with style and gentle humour.
