Terry Gibbs

Born in Brooklyn NY on October 13th, 1924 Terry Gibbs is a jazz vibraphonist and bandleader. Originally a drummer, Gibbs took up the vibraphone sometime in the early 1940s and quickly became one of its foremost proponents, playing with Benny Goodman’s groups. He appeared on various television shows in the 1950s eventually becoming a fixture on the Steve Allen show for NBC.  Moving to California in 1958, he assembled a big band which was known as The Dream Band.  Some of the key musicians were Mel Lewis, Joe Maini, Bill Holman, Med Flory, Al Porcino, Conte Candoli, Frank Rosolino and Bob Enevoldsen. He also co-founded a musical instrument store in Canoga Park called The Music Stop. Terry Gibbs continues to play, well into his 90s.
